David Calle & Abigail Kuehl: The Clean Haircare Dynamos Behind ANTIDOTE 1848

If you look around big name beauty retailers like Sephora and Ulta, you will find that something is very hot right now and has been for some time. This change in the beauty industry that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon? Clean products are in, unnatural junk is out. When you think of clean haircare, you might think of a big name brand like Prose that will cost you your first born, but I encourage you to look at another brand, ANTIDOTE 1848.

Like every great idea, ANTIDOTE 1848 has a story behind it. Its two visionary founders David Calle and Abigail Kuehl bonded over their yearning for change in a world where most hair care products use harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances. Together, their passion and their vision would create the spark needed to create their line of products.

But let’s go back a little bit further.

David Calle came into the picture at ANTIDOTE 1848 with 30 years of experience with consumer products. After being an executive in that business he wanted to focus his energy into small business, and so began his journey to find the answers he wanted. He traveled all over the world to spend time in the best gardens this planet had to offer – some in China, Brazil, and South Africa. In each place he traveled to, he found many different ways that people discovered beauty in their own lives. Even at a young age, Calle had been discovering ways to incorporate plants into ANTIDOTE 1848’s products. Finally, as a part of this company, his love for gardening and his love for consumer products could be brought together as one.

Abigail Kuehl grew up as part of a large family. Through the early years, she and her siblings never went to a salon, instead getting what she calls, “the most horrible haircuts,” from her father. She began working in a salon environment when she was 17 years old. It would take more than a love for the salon setting, however, to come up with this brilliant idea. Kuehl had a love of fitness and health that came from a very young age. While her friends were crunching on sugary breakfast cereal with marshmallows, she was forced to eat Quinoa for breakfast. It might not have been fun in the beginning, but it built good habits and a wealth of knowledge. As time went on, she found new inspiration for her idea – the struggle to find haircare products that were safe for herself and her kids. When she opened up her own boutique salon she discovered that there was a need for products that were not filled with harsh chemicals. She found a way to use her passion to empower healthy living and incorporate it in haircare.

While keeping the salon professional, Calle and Kuehl began the formulation process. They were frustrated with the big name retailers selling products that weren’t always the right solution. The two of them started a pursuit for formulations that supported their unique vision.

As you may or may not know about the lather on your head, everything we put onto our bodies is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. Does that make you feel differently about the sulfate shampoo you’re currently using? Upon creation of ANTIDOTE 1848, Calle and Kuehl wanted to create a brand founded on pure ingredients that work. Each and every ingredient included in the brand’s products is for a specific purpose, not used for filler.

Their products are natural and they don’t quit, providing optimum health for your hair and every inch of your body so that you, the consumer, can function properly.

ANTIDOTE 1848 is what happens when two experts in two different, yet complementary, fields synchronize their efforts to create something absolutely genius. Clean haircare made with only the best ingredients is not a trend or fad. It’s a phenomenon, and I am absolutely on board.
